I’m Anna, the owner of AC Virtual Assistant Ltd. Since launching as a Virtual Assistant in August 2023, I’ve been fully enjoying the role. My background in events, hospitality, and logistics has equipped me with extensive experience covering everything from operations and budgeting to processes and project management.
I provide a range of services to business owners, including email and calendar management, general administrative support (such as research, spreadsheets, and data organisation), as well as social media, marketing, and operations assistance. I leverage my skills and experience to help other business owners thrive and grow.
Who or what inspired you to become a VA?
Since becoming a family of three in 2020, I’ve been on a quest to find a way to spend more time with my loved ones while pursuing work I’m passionate about. I was seeking the right business type for me for nearly three years while going through 2 redundancies and spending around £12,000 per year (yes, this is correct!) in childcare. I was having a close look at my skills and how I could put them to use in a meaningful way.
In early 2023, I discovered that I could use my skills and experience to support other business owners as a Virtual Assistant. I wouldn’t trade this role for anything else! I truly love what I do and am powered by a deep passion for my work!
Have you had any support starting up as a VA
While juggling full-time employment with the demands of setting up my business in the early days, there were many times when my schedule was so packed that I barely had a moment to spend with my family. Despite this, they were incredibly patient and understanding, tolerating my constant busyness and the limited time I had available for them. It was all for a good cause to have more time for them while fully set up! I am forever grateful for this support.
What has been your highlight since starting your business?
Overcoming my imposter syndrome was a significant difficulty for me but I did it and I am proud of it! Initially, the thought of putting myself out there on social media and openly discussing my business filled me with fear of being judged or laughed at by others. It took considerable time and effort to push through these insecurities and find the courage to share my journey and my business with the world. It took me some time to get there but now I feel more confident than ever.
What was your biggest challenge?
I found sticking to my own boundaries as the biggest challenge.
When I first started as a VA, I was committed to responding to every email within 30 minutes and completing all tasks as quickly as possible - often aiming to finish work on the same day it was received. While my dedication was well-intentioned, I soon realised that this approach wasn’t sustainable. I then finally understood that maintaining healthy boundaries and clearly communicating them to my clients was crucial for both my well-being and the long-term success of my business.
What advice would you offer other new or aspiring VAs?
The journey may not always be smooth or effortless, but it is worth it. The time is going to pass anyway so use it to create the future you dream of!
What tools/apps/software can’t you live without?
Asana has been a game changer for me! I’m a big fan of organisation, and using Asana for both my own business development and client work has made a huge difference. It keeps me on track and helps me manage tasks more efficiently.
What is next for you and your business?
I’m currently focused on expanding my client base and planning to bring on associates in the coming year.
What is the ultimate goal for your business?
The goal of my business is to assist as many business owners as possible by easing their overwhelm and providing the support they need to grow their businesses. I’m dedicated to helping clients streamline their operations and achieve their goals, ultimately contributing to their success and growth.
